The Christ Lutheran Church Community Garden is a beautiful collage of 35 plots located on the corner of Lexington and Davenport. As you pass the Community Garden in the various seasons, you will be treated to scenic views such as sunflowers and marigolds, and a cornucopia of vegetables ranging from spring snow peas to summer tomatoes to autumn squash and kale.
There are currently 35 plots, approximately 10 x 20 ft. each. Gardeners from the community as well as the Christ Lutheran Church family are welcome. Gardeners must pay a small fee each year and agree to maintain their plot by weeding, disposing of garbage and compost and participating in the Fall clean-up of the garden. At the moment, all the plots are taken, if you would like to be placed on the waiting list for a plot, please call the church office at (519) 885-4050.
On Sunday, May 26, 2013, our Sunday worshippers followed the processional cross into the garden for the annual blessing. In the photos, below, our crucifer, McKenna, arrives at her destination mid-garden; people gather in prayer around several plots; Heather sprinkles both garden and people during our prayers of blessing, led by Pastor James; Assisting Minister, Janet, leads the versicles, proclaims Genesis 1:1, 11-12, and 29-30, and dismisses the Assembly with the words, "Go in peace, abundantly blessed."
